Fairies get a new swing outside

New fairy stuff

Grace told me the fence is there so the fairies can lean over the fence and chat with each other.  I suspect it may also be a divider to keep her sister's dirt off her side.  ;)

We decided to really spruce up the area and make it homey.  These are pictures from old calendars I had before the girls were born.  I kept them specifically for the pictures not realizing they would one day decorate Fairytopia.

 

Kate's new garden... it's for very young fairies who like to move their stuff around a lot and play in the dirt.  The snake plants really were getting much too large for her original pot so this is perfect.  Grace gave Kate her hanging name b/c it's actually cookies for the fairies to eat.  It only LOOKS like a Christmas ornament to keep trolls and other non-fairy creatures from eating it.

Grace's new spruced up garden.  See how neat she keeps it?   This garden is for the more mature fairy who enjoys a pretty quiet spot to rest at the end of the day.

The girls collected that cup of red berries today while at our home school co-op. 

 Ooo one of the fairies left their toy on the bench!  Grace put tons of pretty flowers on the side so the fairies will not get sad when it gets cold and all the flowers outside turn brown and die.

This is actually an overhead view.  Kate wanted the fairies to see how much she loves them even when they fly overhead.  They can see this heart from their door.

And there you go... the newest fairy fabulousness.  One thing I have come to understand in these years of fairy gardening is that fairies are not picky creatures.  They accept nice and neat as well as dirty and messy.  Gotta love it!! 

Last week there was actually an article in the paper titled : Fairy gardens can spark creativity in kids, adults.  My hubby cut it out and saved it to show me.  :)  Yep, I'd say fairy gardens have definitely sparked creativity for all of us here.  Even Tony, who will not be caught dead playing in the fairy gardens, has made trinkets for the girls to give their fairies. 

MORE fairy garden stuff

We went to the nursery over the weekend to get the chandelier for Misty's garden.  Grace had money to burn thanks to a great aunt.  We came away with a ridiculous amount of plants so Kate could have her own garden.  The tiny fairy-sized plants were only a dollar PLUS I am a sucker for all things fairy.  Here are the new digs.  Oh by the way, Tulip moved in and now takes care of Kate's garden.  Soon we're going to have to build a wing on to the house for all the fairies!

So remember I told you that scuttlebutt in Fairyland had it that Grace would be getting something wonderful from them for Christmas? Well she did!



Misty, her very own fairy, has built a door in the wall right next to the fairy garden, making our house her house too! She and Grace have been exchanging letters daily and Misty signs her letters with glittery footprints. Such excitement!!!! Although Pawpaw built the door frame for Misty, when he left it was only wood. Over the course of the month, Misty sneaked into my craft supplies and decorated it just the way she likes it. Then she cleverly hung it up on Christmas Eve... we did wonder where the tiny hammering sound was coming from. She is an ingenious little thing!! She and Grace are already discussing plans for another garden.

Fairies are ready for Christmas

While I was busy in another part of the house today, Tony and Grace decorated the fairy garden for Christmas. The paperclips are garland and Tony even used a paperclip to fashion a stand for the star on top. :D They were clamoring to use my paper shredder to create snow; fortunately for us all, I had a bag of snow in the Christmas boxes. So after a sudden snowstorm in Fairyville, this is what it looked like.


Notice the creek is now frozen and the bird has a little acorn hat on to keep him warm. The tree is bowing under the weight of the snow and star. I hope it stays upright-ish! lol

Rumor has it that there is a stir in Fairyville. I heard from a little bird that the fairies are thinking of setting up house here in a more permanent fashion. It was suggested that Grace will have new residents by Christmas. I can't wait! I'll be sure to keep you updated! :)

Fairy gardens

Today Grace was telling a friend of ours about fairies. I mentioned that she could see them all here and then I got home and realized that she couldn't... I only have one picture posted! So this is a collection of all our gardens so far. There was a recent thread on The Well-Trained Mind forum discussing fairies so it's been on my mind a bit extra as well. :)

Kate rearranged her garden so many times that I didn't get pictures of most of them. Hers was mostly a few plants and alot of dirt. By the end of the day, it was just the fairies. lol


Tony didn't want to miss out on the fun but wasn't the least bit interested in fairies so he made an army fort.

Grace already has a bunch of handmade furniture made for the next house. She has grand plans for all the houses she will build in the park once spring hits. She's also hoping like mad that it will snow this winter so she can create a snow fort. :D

I believe in fairies

Today we had sausage and cabbage for lunch. Tony & Grace love this meal, Kate loves the sausage. ;) I was on the phone during lunch and distracted. When I got off, I noticed she had eaten all the sausage but had a bowl full of cabbage. I reminded her to eat her food and that I would give her more sausage if she finished her cabbage (bribery is good). The following conversation transpired:

Kate: I can't eat my cabbage Mommy. The fairies are sleeping on it.
Me: I don't see them.
Kate: They're invisible.
Me: It's ok, they'll wake up and fly away when you touch it.
Kate: But mommy, they're TRAPPED there by bad people. They'll die if I eat them!
Me: Alright. *waves hands magically over food* I set them free. Now eat your food.

We're big fans of fairies here as you can see by the garden we keep for them.



Tony thinks Daddy & I used to be dragons (thanks to Bryan Davis). We're quite magical here but I'm not making a dragon garden.
